Pacuare Lodge Offers Family-Friendly Fun in the Rain Forest

Costa Rica´s Most Intimate Rainforest Experience

Traveling with kids takes a little extra planning. Every parent knows that keeping young ones busy and entertained on vacation will make the stay all the more enjoyable for everyone. At Pacuare Lodge, we’ve got family-friendly adventures and activities. Bring the whole family for a fun-filled family vacation.

Family activities at Pacuare Lodge

Our lodge is nestled in the jungle on the banks of the Pacuare River. Kids are going to love living in a luxury villa surrounded by sights and sounds of the jungle. If you love to explore and see exotic wildlife and learn about new cultures, this is the place. We are surrounded by the rainforest and all the wildlife, creatures, birds, insects that live in it; exotic birds, butterflies, monkeys, sloths, iguana, and so much more. We encourage all parents to bring their kids to Pacuare. However, we do have a minimum age of 7 years old.

Kids benefit from learning about new cultures

We try to give our guests an authentic experience and unique insight into the culture of Costa Rica. Letting your kids experience a new culture they become more well-rounded. They also become more adventurous and sympathetic people, because they won’t be afraid of new things or fear lifestyles and traditions that differ from their own.

Keeping your kids active

It’s important to keep your kids active on vacation. We’ve got a bunch of family-friendly activities, where we always put safety first, so a few of our activities have specific age requirements.

7+ years

We’ve got guided tours through the jungle that are fit for the whole family. Take your kids into the rainforest for some bird and wildlife watching. Get them up close and personal with everything the jungle has to offer. They’ll see exotic animals in their natural habitat.

8+ years

The minimum age for our Canopy Tour is 8 years old, so this is a thrilling activity for the whole family. Our guides will keep you safe – including your kids – as you zip above the treetops, getting an exclusive birds-eye view of jungle life.

12+ years

The Pacuare River boasts world-famous whitewater. One of our favorite features at Pacuare Lodge is having our guest arrive and depart via rafting. It’s the most thrilling way to arrive, however, most young children may not be able to handle the water. So, if you’re traveling with your teens (12+), then make sure to add river rafting to your activity list.

Once you are settled in at the Lodge, it’s time to start exploring and submerging yourself in the local culture. We have day hikes to indigenous reserves that give you an exclusive look at how the Cabécar people have lived in harmony with their surroundings for centuries. Walk along ancient trails, visit hidden waterfalls, and rappel down steep cliffs. This is the beauty of Costa Rica, and we want to share it with you and your family.

We also have a shorter version of the hike to the indigenous reserve. The Loop is an easier hike around the rainforest that includes a visit to a replica of a traditional Cabecar Indigenous thatched house. It’s a fun and interactive way to teach your kids about other people and cultures. But, don’t worry, it’s not all educational, the tour ends with a splash in a waterfall before heading back to the Lodge.

Relaxing at Pacuare Lodge

If you are visiting with small kids, be sure to pack some poolside activities. Bring books, crayons, and games. Remember that we use minimal electricity at the Lodge, so try to find some activities that help them unplug from the screens. However, all of the physical activities in the jungle during the day will help everyone enjoy a relaxing afternoon by the pool in the afternoon.
