Smetana Hotel by US News

Updated: Mar 18, 2019

Travelers say this pretty Prague hotel is worth every penny. The Smetana Hotel (formerly known as Pachtuv Palace) gets high marks for just about everything, from the stellar customer service all the way down to the L'Occitane bath amenities offered in each room. The hotel is set within a baroque palace that was once home to a noble Czech family in the 17th century. Recent guests ogled at the elegant atmosphere and classic architecture, especially the stone courtyard. Considering its Old World architecture, the Smetana Hotel is unsurprisingly located just a stone's throw away from Prague's Old Town, as well as the Vltava River. Travelers loved the views of the Charles Bridge from their rooms and appreciated how spacious accommodations are here (standard rooms start at 388 square feet). However, despite their upscale amenities (think: espresso machines and flat-screen TVs with DVD players), several past guests reported minor drawbacks like faulty sink plugs and thin walls. Additionally, this property lacks a gym and pool, but massages can be arranged in your room or at the on-site spa. As far as dining goes, the hotel is home to Atelier Kalina, which serves Czech-French fusion dishes, and Café La Crème, a French-inspired cafe. There's also the Chapel Cigar Club, which is housed in a chapel built in 1628 (a guest favorite). The most memorable part of the hotel, though, was the staff members, who numerous recent guests said made them feel like true VIPs.
