The Montalembert has a smart Left Bank location for exploring fashion shops, antique dealers and designer furniture outlets. It's just 550 yards from the Impressionist masterpieces in Musée d'Orsay, or across the Seine to the Tuileries gardens and the Louvre. Yet is on a quiet side street with grand publishing house Gallimard almost next door. Rue du Bac metro is around the corner.
This Left Bank legend in Paris's Saint-Germain art and literature heartland has been revitalized, bringing in more light and fluidity, while keeping the charm of its grand aura from when it first opened in 1926 and opened the ground floor into a convivial eating and drinking haunt.
The Twenties stone façade gives the impression of a grand hotel, yet with just 50 rooms it has the personalised touch of a boutique hotel. The ground floor has been opened up, adding a loopy totem-like book shelf that sets the tone in reception, yet keeping some Art Deco references with lots of wood and a lovely veteran cage lift that trundles gently up the daylit stairwell.
